UK Supreme Court pays tribute to former Justice Lord Walker
Following the sad news of the death of former Supreme Court Justice Lord Walker of Gestingthorpe on 17th November 2023, Lord Reed paid tribute to him before the UK Supreme Court hearing today (21st November 2023).
Lord Walker became one of the first Justices of the Supreme Court in 2009, having been appointed a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary in 2002.
He left the Court in March 2013 and sat in the House of Lords as a crossbencher until his retirement from the House in 2021.
In tribute to our friend and colleague, Lord Reed said: "Lord Walker was an immensely respected judge: careful, courteous and wise. He was also the kindest of men.
Our thoughts, and our profound sympathy, are with Lady Walker and her family at this sad time."
Lord Reed recommended watching Lord Walker's valediction to get a glimpse of the funny, kind, and respected man Lord Walker was, the video can be viewed here: Lord Walker's Valediction - YouTube
